Applying MultiStone Garage Coating

Bare garage floors do not add anything to the look of the garage. This is why garage owners look at the many garage coatings that are available for concrete floors. The most widely used coating is epoxy, but there are other coatings you can use as well. All of then require special preparation of the floor in order for the coating to bond with the concrete and provide the finish that you want. You don’t have to stick to a clear coating that shows the color of the concrete because you can use many different colors depending on the coating you choose.

One particular garage coating is called MultiStone and it provides you with a durable floor that will not yellow when the garage door is left open exposing the floor to the sunlight. This system uses industrial strength polyurethane that protects the concrete by preventing any chemicals from penetrating the floor. In order to apply this product successfully you have to take great care in preparing the floor.

Use a power washer to clean the floor and if you already have a finish on the floor that is peeling, you have to get it all off. A powerful power washer of at least 4000PSI will do this job for you. This step is necessary because the garage floor must be completely clean if you want the material to bond with the concrete. Then you need to apply a primer that matches the color of the multistone you choose. You can spray it on, but it works best if you roll it one. Two coats of the primer will give you better protection for your floor.

You apply the MultiSTone when the primer is dry. This has to be sprayed on with an airless system that you can rent from any home improvement or hardware store. Twenty-four hours later you can apply the clear coat, but you can roll this on if you wish. You need to apply two coats, but wait six hours before you apply the second coat. You can walk on the floor after 24 hours and drive your vehicle over it in 48 hours.
